Question: How do I handle an extended close-up of me when I am not speaking?
Answer: This is usually referred to as a REACTION SHOT and can be the most important thing you do in a film. Do not indicate or show what you are thinking or feeling, just let the camera find you in the situation. Observe, think and feel very specific images, relevant to the scene. The camera will read your mind and heart. Hold still and do not make faces to show what you are feeling. Let the camera come to you. We spend a great deal of time teaching our students to do great reaction shots at the New York Acting School for Film and TV.
