Question: Do I have to memorize my lines for acting auditions?
Answer: No. Most casting directors state that you do not have to memorize your lines. I recently was cast in a feature film that ended up at the Academy Awards (“ If I Had Legs
I’d Kick You”). I used a printed out version of the script at my call back. Print out your sides on paper. Do not use your cell phone! This gives you a safety net to fall back on if you blank
out on your lines and allows you to focus on your acting instead of struggling with line memorization. It’s always better to memorize your lines confidently, but we do not always
have time to memorize – especially on short notice. In my Essentials On Camera Course I teach a detailed technique for performing auditions while reading.
